All of Darkmoon's anxiety vanished at his one command; run. Darkmoon broke into a sprint, savoring the feel of her muscles stretching and propelling her over the sand and the wind whipping through her hair. Miniscule grains of sand blasted into her boots, and she was glad for the protection and height of the leather around her legs.
Above, the crescent moon hung like a silver sickle, straining to illuminate sandy dunes around them. Her heart leaped at its thinness. Any moment, she seemed she would be swallowed up by the inky blackness of the night sky around her, spelling disaster for Darkmoon. Even though she knew she had another full day before she had to worry, that bright silver almost faded before her eyes as if it were an hourglass whispering hurry hurry hurry...
Fangs barred, Darkmoon pressed herself onward with renewed vigor, the planes of the desert vanishing by in a blur. Velox kept pace with her, surprising her momentarily until she detected that subtle shift in the air pressure and realized he was bending. But that wasn't the only thing she sensed...
"Something...is nearby," she called as loudly as she dared to her companion. Again, like a whispered threat, she heard a slithering in the air and the muffled thud of a powerful heartbeat. "Something big."

Velox was able to catch Darkmoon's words, even as loud wind whipped by his ear. He didn't dare stop just yet, but he and Darkmoon began to slow their pace as he as well started noticing the tale-tell signs. This was precisely would he had been afraid would occur if they made the crossing at night. A heartbeat so powerful you could feel it through the sand, the subtle shifting of the dunes in the area, and the uncomfortable absence of anything else in the area: a dune worm. They tended to prefer the dry, colder sand down below and so rarely ever surfaced during the day, but at night, they were much more likely to come above in the chilled dark air. They were the sole reason Trader caravans never, ever crossed at this time of evening. He shot Darkmoon a concerned glance. Even for them, these creatures would be fair threat.
"Whatever you do, do not stop moving! If it's what I think it is, it is much smarter than you may think." He shouted back to Darkmoon. And indeed they were. They enjoyed circling their prey underground, waiting for them to pause in what looked like the safest spot before striking. Lucky for them, though, he had a plan.
"If you can do your best to sense it before it surfaces, I can launch us into the air at the right moment. We won't be able to so much as scratch it until it comes up to attack us..." He said to her. It was a very straight-forward plan, but in the face of such overwhelming size and force, their was little that could be done to strategize against it other than surviving. That their luck had been so bad as to encounter one just as they set upon their path worried him. He was no stranger to bad omens. He readied his favored staff in both hands as they continued to run, awaiting the inevitable battle to occur. He was not ashamed to admit that this beast gave him great worry, the adrenaline pumping through his veins.
