It was hopeless, fighting the sincerity and the comfort of his eyes. For some reason, Raisa was able to trust Zuko more deeply than anyone she'd ever known, save her best friend. She could feel his steady heart beating against her chest, and knew her own must feel like a fluttering little bird. She took a deep breath, and smiling, squeezed his hand. "I trust you, Zuko."

Zuko smiled at his wife. He didn't say anything, he didn't need to. They both knew that, despite the arranged marriage, the passion they felt was real and it would only deepen with time. He kissed her again, this time with more passion that just pure lust, and played his fingers at the hem of her night gown. Zuko pressed into Raisa, not sure which heart beat belonged to whom, and wanted to be closer, tighter. She was his. She trusted him. She wanted him, too, and he didn't hesitate.
The morning light crept through the window and across his pillow, waking him with its brightness. He stirred and began to sit up when he realized a weight was holding him down. His bleary sleep filled eyes found the weight to be blonde and still sleeping, and he settled back down. The wedding had really taken place yesterday. Raisa had been with him last night. It hadn't been a dream, a wonderful dream after a life of hardships. He turned his head to his her blonde curls and saw her night gown strewn across the headboard of the bed, as if he needed any more proof. Chuckling to himself, he tossed it to the end of the bed, not wanting to embarrass Raisa if she wanted to dress when she awoke. Until then, Zuko was content to lay with the petite princess curled in his arms, sleeping softly on his chest, and taking in every whisper of her skin against his.

Raisa felt Zuko shift and stirred away, blinking against the bright morning sunshine. She groaned and turned over, snuggling herself into Zuko and burying her face into his neck to hide from the light. "Sleep, more sleep. Not morning yet..." she mumbled, lacing an arm around his chest and shoulders. The air felt uncommonly cool on her skin where she wasn't touching Zuko, and she wasn't yet ready to leave the comfort of his heat just yet.

Zuko laughed and kissed the top of Raisa's head as she pressed against him, moving to get closer to her. He rolled over onto his side to wrap his arms around her, pulling her to his chest. He trailed a hand gently from her neck, over her shoulder, down her back, over her hip, across her thigh, and back up. One time over the skin of her leg, he felt the faint etching of a vine. "That's a beautiful tattoo, Rai. I meant to tell you last night." He said, remembering the delicate ivy vine and blossoming flowers that trailed from her hip to her ankle. "Have you always had that?"

Raisa flinched self consciously. "It's... been there as long as I can remember. My mother had it put on me when I was young." She hadn't the slightest idea why it was there, nor was she proud of it. To her, it was a constant reminder of how her family had fled their people when they needed them most. "I've tried to find ways to have it removed a couple of times, but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon..."
