Yanyu has an assortment of peculiarities from the desert, most of which he carries in his gilacorn rucksack. Besides the clothes on his back, his sandles and his walking stick, Yanyu carries the following.
Spirit Mask - A mask given to him by his grandfather, which as far as he knows, is designed in the image of Gow-Vae the Ash Devourer. It's use is hold form in the spirit world and trick spirits who would do men harm who travel to their land.
Herbalist's Box - A set of pruning shears, leather gloves, mortar, pestle, vials, jars and bottles, some empty, some filled with various substances, triages, bandages and various desert herbs designed for a herbalist to utilize his trade.
Glue Bombs - Made of spun glass, the only substance that this thick, fast drying mixture won't stick to, and designed to shatter on impact. Made from giant beetle egg paste and various cacti, it's use it obvious. He keeps three with him at this time.
Stench Vial - A bottle of vile smelling extract, made from Giant Beetle glands, sulfur, and dried leaves of the poisonous Rouk-Sha plant. When exposed to air, the scent from it's fumes can best be described as rotten eggs, mixed with burnt fish and week old sour milk. It's primary use is to keep predators and insects away. The liquid itself lingers for days, even after it has been washed away. Deathly poisonous and not meant for human consumption. He keeps two such bottles with him.
Healing Salve - A tin topical salve, designed to stave off infection, cool burns and wounds and aid in the recovery of injuries in incredibly fast order. It is made from Vulture-Wasp Royal Jelly, and thus is not easy to come by.
Rope & Grappling Hook - An object whose use is obvious, 50 ft of spun cord has always had it's uses. The hook is not made of metal, but of specially treated hyenadon jaw bones.
Cutting Knife - A bone knife, used for cutting things. Too small and too brittle for combat but perfect for more practical, everyday uses.
Glass Stills - Small glass stills, designed to extract every ounce of moisture from plants, urine and anything with water that the sun can evaporate safely through distillation. He carries enough to produce enough water for himself, even in the desert heat.
Yanyu's Journal - A journal given to Yanyu by his grandfather Ogoun, contains Yanyu's chronicle and private thoughts. A simply book of papyrus, bound in tanned leather and beetle carapace. Written in lead penciling, the spelling is quite poor, and the grammar is disjointed, a credit to Yanyu's lack of literacy.
Dried Food and Waterskin - Yanyu has enough dried food and water to last a week in the desert. It consists of dried meats, seeds, berries, beans, roots, small gourds and vulture wasp honey.
Gold - Several pouches of gold coin and gemstones, more then enough to survive on for several months.
