So that was it, she thought. This is what Velox had chosen. He had given up on her, on them. It was a blow, though not an unexpected one in the least. It had always seemed a slim sliver of hope that when Velox returned, he would be as happy to see her as she was him. This was hardly a shock. Still, that didn't make it hurt any less. So it was true, then, that she hadn't meant as much to him as he meant to her. She'd realized she was in love with Velox. Velox apparently had not felt the same, or things would have gone differently. As Velox walked away, so to did all of her dreams of them making it out of this mess together and sharing the happy years that followed. Apparently, that wasn't what Velox had in mind.
Sarya could see Velox's silhouette as he scaled the ruins. If only she could do the same, she would get out of this place. Instead, she was forced to listen to his music, the soft, tinkling, heart wrenching melody playing out what her body felt. In the middle of the night, Sarya realized that the only thing connecting her to the man she loved was their shared pain. Nothing else was the same. Her heart still beating in rhythm with Velox's tune, Sarya turned over onto her side, and cried.
